Van Beem & Van Haagen – the power of LED

Client request

HATO recently provided solutions for the lighting of ATM’s of Dutch financial services institution, ING. Through its engineering partner, Van Beem & Van Haagen, Dutch financial services institution ING was looking for a lighting solution to be applied in its ATM’s. The machines would require a total makeover, including a white luminescent appearance at the front and an orange halo effect towards the wall, aligning with the bank’s brand identity. Development of the solution took place in order of and in close cooperation with Van Beem & Van Haagen.

HATO approach in collaboration with Van Beem & Van Haagen

A very meticulous process of testing, adjusting and testing with different light sources, light intensities and colors, led to the desired result. The fixture of choice were molded, waterproof LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes). A combination of grid printed film for the light range, in the appropriate color-saturation of the LEDs and the screen-printed film led to an end result the bank was looking for. HATO supported Van Beem & Van Haagen in that process.

End result

Paul Obers, Director of HATO: ‘The speed at which our experts developed, tested and delivered a solution with Van Beem &Van Haagen was remarkable. In the end, the LEDs were the right way to go from a functional, technical and aesthetic perspective!’

Illumination of Van Beem & Van Haagen voting booths worldwide

Client request

In 2008, HATO designed LED lighting in voting booths on a worldwide level in order of and in cooperation with Van Beem & Van Haagen. Our client was looking for a lighting solution that would provide voters with 100 lux more light without the use of cables, as the risk that voters would stumble would need to be eliminated.

HATO approach in collaboration with Van Beem & Van Haagen

The solution developed was an aluminum LED strip that guaranteed 14 hours of 100 lux additional lighting. This strip was designed and tested at the HATO facilities. The main challenge when designing this product was to achieve extended energy output since each lamp required to last at least 14 hours at battery source with a stable light intensity. The powerful LED-solution proved to be the solution to this challenge.

End result

In the end, the voting booths comprising approximately 8,000 LED-strips were delivered throughout the Netherlands. The majority of local authorities used the booths. On a worldwide level, Van Beem & Van Haagen delivered 14000 LED-strips. Paul Obers, Director of HATO: “In this project, we have been able to provide a solution in a short timeframe. The solution not only provided equal lighting intensity for the full duration of the booths´ usage, the result was elegant and cost-effective as well.”
